Does every day feel like a battle or even a war? Would it be easier to face challenges if you knew you would overcome them? The good news is, your battle is already won! You must be assured of your victory. It is extremely important that you grasp the depth of what Christ did for you on the cross.
“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; He took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:13-15 (NIV)
Jesus triumphed over your enemies! A triumph is not just the winning of a victory, but a jubilant celebration and tribute of the victory that was won. In ancient Rome, the celebrations heralded in a returning army that had been victorious. Satan is determined that you will not grasp this one important truth because it is the key to his defeat.
This is the truth: Our Lord Jesus Christ has already defeated Satan and his army of demons completely and forever!
Jesus’ victory over the entire satanic kingdom was not for Him; rather He won it for all of us. Understand that it is God’s purpose that this victory be demonstrated through you.
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 (NASU) Emphasis added.
The two key points in the above Scripture state that you share Christ’s triumph over Satan’s kingdom any time and any place. Jesus won the victory on your behalf, and now it is your responsibility to demonstrate and administer that victory. The root word for responsibility is response. You must respond to the commission God gives you to carry forth His victory everywhere, at all times.
Jesus overcame the world, His human flesh, and the devil. By His victory on the cross, He purchased your freedom from sin’s bondage and took back the keys to Hell, death, and the grave. He then gave you His authority so that you could triumph in your personal battles through His power, if you only respond.
“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” Luke 9:1-3 (NKJV)
Jesus not only gives you His victory, He also makes intercession for you. When you engage in spiritual battles, He talks to the Father on your behalf. He has made every provision for our success.
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” Luke 10:19 (NIV)
“…It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:34-35, 37-39 (NKJV)
Jesus waged war against the enemy and told us to do likewise. You have the authority to overcome all of the power of the enemy, but you must adopt a mentality that prepares you for your spiritual battles. That mindset begins with an understanding that there is nothing in heaven or on earth that can wage war against you and win, if you know your identity in Christ and use the authority you have been given. This means you can take authority in your relationships, families, finances, emotions, thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors. This authority is for your personal, professional, and spiritual lives.
What assurance you have if you understand that nothing created, not angels or demons, people, or the things of this world, can separate you from the love of God and the victory that He has for you! You cannot be removed from His heart. He is continually thinking about you with unconditional love. If you exert your authority, you will not allow any of life’s circumstances to hinder your relationship with God or man. His love will bring you as a unique individual into His perfect will. This is where you will find the fruit of the Spirit, and walk with daily love, peace, and joy that are unshakable.
