Soul Ties Part 5 – Sexual Immorality, the World, and Death

God created good or holy soul ties. That means that Satan responds with a counterfeit. Therefore, ungodly soul ties are perversions of the good and holy soul ties that God created. Holy soul ties are founded upon love; ungodly soul ties are founded on lust, control and manipulation, and sin. Satan’s desire is to pervert anything pure, but he cannot go beyond his limited rights

Participation in sin is one way that Satan can pervert what was created to be holy. For example in marriage, sex was intended to unite two souls into one flesh. Ungodly soul ties however, are forged through sexual relationships outside of marriage.

“Do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.”                               1 Corinthians 6:16 (NASU)

Those who engage in sex outside of marriage are joining them self to another without covenant commitment. The Scriptures clearly show that anyone who has sex has been joined to the other. What happens when someone moves from relationship to relationship, dissolving one after another? The union is torn apart. This is one way that your soul can become fragmented or broken, resulting in damage to your mind, will, and emotions.

“Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul. Wounds and dishonor he will get, and his reproach will not be wiped away.”

“But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul;”
Proverbs 8:36 (NKJV)

This happens through fornication, adultery, and sexual touching. Lust accompanies all three of these and makes the soul tie unclean, which opens the door for unclean spirits. Soul ties are not limited to heterosexual relationships, but also homosexual and any perverse sexual behaviors.

Ungodly soul ties can also be formed through the most  and insidious of all of Satan’s methods of perverting the family. This evil occurs within the sanctity of the home, a place that should be your haven away from the world.
In our current culture there is an alarmingly prevalent amount of sexual perverseness within family relationships.
In many families, incestuous sex and/or spousal and child abuse may be hidden or covered up. This can be between husband and wife, brother and sister, parents and their children, extended family, step families, or in-laws. This damages the participants to the depths of their souls but remember all things can be healed by God.

Another type of ungodly soul tie is formed with the world. It can be deemed as idolatry and is forbidden throughout the Bible. You are called to come out and be separate from the world and let your light shine among men. Soul ties with the world hinder your tie to Christ and you can have but one master.

“The Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes…”

The world presents many paths to destruction. The way of the Lord is a narrow path that leads to life. You must bind your will and your purpose to Christ, fixing your eyes on God, and clinging to His truth in a dark world with many counterfeits.

God created beautiful things for you to experience, but you have an enemy that wants to pervert the things of God. The demonic kingdom has an open door to your body and soul when boundaries are violated. God created you to love and bond in healthy relationship to others, but God has set boundaries in all things.

When any relationship disregards the boundaries that God established, the relationship becomes perverse and you have given the demonic realm an open door to oppress you. Through these soul ties a spiritual channel is formed and transference of spirits is possible. You need to guard your soul and unite yourself with whatever will draw you toward God, not away from Him.

The reality is that fleshly soul ties become ungodly demonic soul ties. You are not to be lead by your soul – mind, will or emotions, but rather conform to the character and nature of God letting the Holy Spirit lead you. As you identify ungodly soul ties you can reverse their destructive force.

God is faithful to cleanse you through repentance enabling you to take back the ground stolen from you by Satan’s wiles. Declare every ungodly soul tie that you have identified and destroy it by breaking the agreement with the demonic realm through the glorious and powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Another type of soul tie can be formed through death. Soul ties that were formed in life need to be terminated in a reasonable amount of time after the death of a loved one. The Bible indicates that in Israel mourning the dead lasted from seven to thirty days. During this time family and friends comforted the bereaved.

In the Hebrew culture the inward anguish was represented by the tearing of clothing and putting ashes on the head.
“Joseph observed a seven-day period of mourning for his father.”

“The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over.”
Deuteronomy 34:8 (NIV)

Fond and loving memories will always remain, but there needs to be an end to the period of mourning. There is no fixed time for grieving. Our American culture does not exemplify healthy grieving. We don’t talk about death, and we use by-words like passed away to make ourselves more comfortable. We try to hold ourselves together, unlike the Hebrews who mourned with vigor. This may be one reason our society takes much more time to grieve than the Hebrews. Regardless of the duration needed to complete the grieving process, there is always a time of adjustment during which the soul tie is ended. Prolonged mourning indicates the continuation of a soul tie.

When you carry grief for an extended period of time due to any loss (death of a family member or close friend, or miscarriage), a wound severs your soul and leaves you vulnerable for attack. Extended grief will create an open door for spirits of sorrow, heaviness and loneliness to enter. Our God wants to heal our pain so that our soul is not fragmented. He alone is your provision.

“He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me.”

All soul ties can create open doors to spiritual enemies, create strongholds, unhealthy life and relationship skills, but Jesus Christ has given all provision and instruction to break ungodly soul ties. Align your mind with the Word of God and move forward to look like Jesus in your behaviors and decisions.

After reading this series on soul ties make a choice to pray and ask God to help you identify and break all ungodly soul ties. The following is a sample prayer to break what you have identified.
Prayer to Break Soul Ties

Lord Jesus, I choose to forgive everyone who has sinned against me and I ask You to forgive them as well. I thank You for forgiving me for the sins that I have committed against You my God and other people. I repent for my responsibilities in all of these sins and I also choose to forgive and accept myself.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent, renounce, and reject all ungodly soul ties and break all mental and behavioral agreements that I have made that are contrary to God’s Word. I ask You to remove the continuance of these faulty life and relationship skills, thinking patterns, core beliefs, attitudes, motives, speech patterns, and inner vows.

I now close the doors to my body and soul that were open from the identified soul ties. By the blood and authority of Jesus Christ, I ask You Lord, to break all ungodly soul ties with everyone that I have identified.
Please place a bloodline between myself and these people. Cut any cords that have linked us together, and remove every foothold that the enemy obtained through these ties. In the name of Jesus Christ I command all demonic oppression that has influenced, hindered, or attached itself to me as a result of these soul ties to leave me now and go into the abyss. I pray the blood of Jesus to cleanse and heal me of all wounds. I pray with the authority given to me in the name of Jesus Christ.
