The Bible is Unique Part One

I find that too many people think they have to suspend their intellect, there reason, and facts to have faith. And what I am going to proceed to show you is that is not true. I think most of us are in pursuit of truth in pursuit of something greater. I don’t believe the Bible just for the sake of what it is claimed to be but rather what It proved itself to be.

The Bible is unique. How can a book written as far back as 3500 years have relevance to us today?

We could take any Book in literature or history and compare it and it wouldn’t be applicable to every culture, every nationality, and every generation.

Webster’s defines unique as one and only, different from all others, having no like or equal. The Bible is unique and different from all every book for some reasons that I’d like to share with you.

First it’s unique in its continuity. It’s was written over a 1500 year span, written over 40 generations, written by more than 40 authors from every walk of life.

Moses was a political leader trained in the universities of Egypt

Peter was a fisherman

Amos a herdsman

Joshua a military general

Nehemiah cup bearer

Daniel a prime minister

Luke a Dr.

Solomon a king

Matthew a tax collector

Paul a rabbi

It was written in different places:

Moses wrote it on a hillside

Jeremiah in a dungeon

Daniel on a hillside and in a palace

Paul inside prison walls

Luke while traveling

John on the island of Patmos

Others in the rigors of military campaigns

It was written in different times:

David wrote it in times of war

Solomon in times of peace

It was written in different moods:

at the heights of joy and the depths of sorrow

It was written on three continents:

In Asia, Africa, and Europe

It was written in three languages:

Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek

And finally it contains hundreds of controversy topic’s yet all of those 40 biblical authors with all of their differences, who had no email or cell phone to collaborate with each other spoke with harmony and continuity from Genesis to Revelation. The book has a logical beginning and ending like any other book of literature with one unfolding story — God’s redemption of man.

When something doesn’t work what do we do with it? We chuck it! I think that’s what many people have done with God and religion as a whole. Religion is humans trying to work their way to God through good works. Many people have been turned off by Christians who don’t model what they claim to believe.

Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is God coming to men and women through Jesus offering them a relationship with himself. It is God pursuing man to know him personally.

Right now choose 10 authors in your mind from just one walk of life, one generation, one area of the country or world, who have no connection or communication with each other do you think they could all write about a controversial issue in harmony and agree?

There are only 8 of us in this room and I’m sure that we went to our individual corners of the house and wrote about a controversial issue we would not have agreement and continuity on the subject.

So I challenge you if you are a truth seeker at least consider the Bible with the above unique qualifications.

100,000 million Bibles are sold each year. As of November 2014 the full Bible has been translated into 531 languages, and 2,883 languages have at least some portion of the Bible.

The Bible has survived all the copying and recopying for hundreds of years before even the printing press. Yet it did not diminish the style, the correctness of doctrines, or its very existence. It has more manuscripts proving its consistency through time then any 10 pieces of classical literature combined.

It survived through persecution, vicious attacks by its enemies, it’s been burned, band, and outlawed from the days of the Roman empire to the present day communist dominated countries.

But this still doesn’t prove that the Bible is the word of God but it does prove it stands alone all from all other books. If a book stands alone among all the books written in print shouldn’t that give us cause if we are searching for truth to consider The Bible.

Why would we not want to read the one Book that has drawn more attention than any other book in human history if we are truth seekers?

I encourage you to seek God with all your heart. If you don’t have an intimate relationship with God and His Word get to know Him better through learning the Bible.  Don’t just read the Bible but study it so you can apply it to your life. Gain an understanding of the difference and meaning in the Old and New Testament, understand God’s character and intentions toward you, know who you are in Christ, and also understand the time we are living in with regard to biblical prophecy.
